Reitman
In the summer of 1998, we designed and built a living room/sunspace for Bruce and Jade Reitman of Boxford, MA. The Reitmans had purchased a new traditional Cape Cod-style home about eight years earlier. The home had gorgeous pond views on three sides of the house. To take advantage of these views, the builder designed a long and narrow house, approximately 24' x 60'. Subsequently, the kitchen/dining room area was only about 12' wide. The Reitmans wanted to expand the dining room area into a family room/sun room that would bring in more light and and expand the view to the outdoors.
We designed a 12' x 20' sunroom, with Andersen casement/transom windows. The windows were spaced 6" apart and went virtually floor to ceiling. The sunspace had a tile-on-slab floor with radiant heat. The tile floor was surrounded with oak strip flooring that matched the flooring in the existing kitchen/dining room area. The dining area was opened to the sunroom with a 16-foot opening, supported by a triple microlam beam. The result was astonishing. The wall of windows opened the entire rear of the house to the flora and fauna of the pond and surrounding woods. Bruce boasts that when sitting in the room, one feels as if he were outside.
