Berger
Last July, we began a project for Steven & Jean Berger of Parsons Street in Newburyport. Fulcrum Architects designed the project and Kathy Stathopolous of B&G Cabinets designed the kitchen. The house was built in the 1800's. Previous owners added the kitchen area in the rear of the house in the 1900's, and a screened porch more recently.
The new design eliminated the rear-entry porch. We added a mudroom adjacent to the driveway, and the kitchen was expanded with a bump-out in the rear to accommodate the new kitchen sink location. Above the sink is a triple window unit which brings light to the expanded kitchen. The new kitchen is U-shaped with a bar adjacent to the cooking surface. It is also open to the sunroom, which features a hip-roof cathedral ceiling.
The Bergers access a mahogany deck with a cedar arbor through an Andersen Frenchwood patio door. The deck is divided into two sections, one with the arbor and another with cedar privacy lattice and a six-person hot tub. Finally, the backyard is enclosed with a new 6' cedar fence for privacy.
