In early 2005, Kent & Susan Allen of Newburyport hired us to remodel their home on Plum Island.  The Allens tried to get a permit to put a second story on their beachfront home. They hired an architect and submitted plans to the town but had been refused. The town would not allow the expansion of any buildings in the protected area in which the Allens lived.

We proposed a total gut remodel and a redesign of the existing footprint.

We worked through the spring and summer to complete the project.  We installed a new roof, Tyvek house wrap and siding, and Andersen 400 series low-e, argon-filled windows to tighten the building envelope.  The upper level was remodeled to contain a new kitchen, dining area, master bedroom and master bathroom. The lower level was remodeled with two bedrooms, a laundry room, a utility room, a bathroom, and a sitting area.
